Often, motor vehicle accidents result in injuries. However, an accident can also turn fatal. For this reason, it is always best for drivers to exercise extra caution when they get behind the wheel. Dallas, Texas drivers who cause injuries or a fatal accident due to their negligence can be held criminally liable by victims and their families.
A 31-year-old driver who caused the death of a female motorist may just find himself in a similar situation. According to a Department of Public Safety Trooper, the man's pickup truck was following a van that was slowing down to make a turn into a driveway. The truck tried to go around the van but sideswiped it instead. After striking the van, the pickup collided head-on with a car.
The car was driven by an 82-year-old woman. After the accident, witnesses said that woman's legs got pinned down on the car's side. She also had a cut on her elbow, but she was still breathing. Two ambulances responded to the scene. The woman was being transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center but did not survive her injuries. The driver that caused the crash faces charges for criminally negligent homicide.
Besides the charges for the accident, the surviving family of the victim can also file a wrongful death lawsuit against a negligent driver. Although filing for a legal action will obviously not bring back the life of a loved one or lessen the grief, it can serve as a measure of justice. A family can also avoid financial troubles, especially if the victim was a primary wage earner of the family. A Dallas, Texas family who files a wrongful death lawsuit should realize that it is an option that they can rightfully make to hold a negligent person accountable and obtain the monetary award that they deserve.
