What are the best ways to prevent motorcycle accidents?

Riding a motorcycle requires skill. Just as important, however, is the ability to sense danger. This ability can take years to develop, but you can learn a lot by completing a basic rider course. If you do not have enough time to take one, then consider the most common causes of motorcycle accidents and how to avoid them.

What are the worst places for motorcycle accidents? Intersections are probably the most dangerous places. If a vehicle suddenly turns in front of you, you have few options other than hit the vehicle or try to avoid it and perhaps end up hitting something else. Avoiding collisions requires instantaneous assessments as you approach an intersection. Can the driver see you? If they cannot, consider what evasive actions you might be able to take if they turn in front of you. Which direction are the vehicle's wheels pointing? This should indicate which direction the driver is heading. Again, having an evasive maneuver in mind or an escape route that will help you avoid collision with the vehicle is a form of defensive driving that can save your life.

What other behaviors increase the chances of an accident? Speeding is one of the most common causes of motorcycle crashes. Avoid it at all times when around other vehicles. Not being seen is another. If the drivers of other vehicles do not see you, then there is more chance they will change lanes or move into your path without warning. You have to be visible when traveling. Wear reflective vests and gear that increases your visibility to other motorists.

In the event of a motorcycle accident, if the motorcyclist was riding responsibly, he or she could receive compensation for medical expenses and other losses by filing a personal injury claim for damages based on incurred losses.
